NAE™ Project: Update May 29, 2010 Ladies and Gentlemen: This Memorial day weekend found a small turnout meeting at our Spanaway hangar. Ed Shadle, Von Armstrong, Keith Zanghi, Larry Martinson and son, Dustin, and Sam Yellowbird were on hand to put in some hours of work on the North American Eagle™. Ed brought the American Valley Aviation M32-60B Start Cart and trailer over from the Spanaway airport and unloaded it into the hangar. It requires some maintenance to get it up to its optimum performance level.
Von and Keith set up a work area in the rear of the hangar and continued the job of preparing the interior of the fuselage for the application of a new, LizardSkin® heat absorbing coating. This ceramic insulation material should help reduce the exterior paint damage incurred when the jet engine is in the afterburner mode. With the name "Lizard Skin" it must be tough. Dustin did some work on the newly acquired drill press and then joined his dad in repairing some of our portable lights. Sam Yellowbird brought in some needed supplies including coffee and paper towels around the time Von had the grill fired up and called for a lunch break. Ed continued to work under and in the belly of the beast tracing down and improving some wiring circuits related to the ignition system. And another Saturday work day came to a close. On the Newsstands If you own a Falcon Business Jet, then you have seen the North American Eagle in the latest issue of Falconer Magazine, Issue 36 / 2010. If you're not lucky enough to own a multi-million dollar business jet, the you can read The Quest To Be The Fastest Car On Earth written by Grant Kielczewski, Managing Editor on line. It features extraordinary photos of our July 2009 test session at The Black Rock Desert, and tells the story of tenacity and resourcefulness as our team challenges the 763 mph world land speed record.
