NAE™ Project:
Update Archive

May 7, 2006

Ladies & Gentlemen:

Two of our team members, Russell Garlow and Didi Boyington, attended a presentation at the Seattle Museum of Flight on Saturday, May 6th by Mike Melvil, the first FAA-rated astronaut and first to fly a privately-funded vehicle into space. This was done with SpaceShipOne in June of 2005.

He gave an excellent speech about the flight, and about all the people involved in bringing this monumental task to fruition. Despite generous funding from Paul Allen and others, the project was done on a very conservative basis with regard to cost. Whenever possible, the most inexpensive off-the-shelf equipment was used.

Garlow commented about hearing the SpaceShipOne presentation, "I couldn’t help but draw a parallel to what the North American Eagle™ team is attempting. It was exciting to meet someone who was involved in a private venture with so much to risk, and yet so much to achieve."

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
