NAE™ Project: Update Archive May 7, 2006 Ladies & Gentlemen: Two of our team members, Russell Garlow and Didi Boyington, attended a presentation at the Seattle Museum of Flight on Saturday, May 6th by Mike Melvil, the first FAA-rated astronaut and first to fly a privately-funded vehicle into space. This was done with SpaceShipOne in June of 2005. He gave an excellent speech about the flight, and about all the people involved in bringing this monumental task to fruition. Despite generous funding from Paul Allen and others, the project was done on a very conservative basis with regard to cost. Whenever possible, the most inexpensive off-the-shelf equipment was used. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
