NAE™ Project:
Update Archive

July 15, 1997

Ladies & Gentlemen:

So how does it feel to accelerate from 0 to 300 mph in four seconds? Ask Bob Berry, the manager of the Toledo airport, or ask Pat Pawling, writer for Maxim, the new mens magazine or me. The test runs at Toledo airport on July 12 and 13 included some back seat time for passengers. Bobs response was " it's indescribable, the most exciting thing I've ever done". Pat said, "the money spent to come all the way out from New Jersey was worth every penny". The ride in the back seat of the North American Eagle™ (NAE) is a unique experience. To celebrate, the website will offer a listing of those special people, in a new feature entitled Back Seat Drivers! We'll give you the name and order of appearence plus throw in a picture of the lucky person. We hope you'll enjoy it.

We completed 7 very good test runs this weekend. Thanks to Don Small and Sons for the fuel, Al LaPoint and Security Race Products for the new pilot chutes plus Bob Berry and the Toledo airport owners. King TV's (ch5) Tom Bishop with Evening Magazine spent all day with us. He got some shots from many angles as well as two runs from inside the NAE™ with a small camera. We should see a segment on Evening Magazine very soon. Thanks to the whole team of volunteers, Heather Eckstein for pumping fuel, Cam Shadle for attaching the vertical stabilizer, Rachelle and Christopher, Jamie and Carol for camera work, John, Jon and Keith, Pat and Dave ground vehicles, radio communications and of course Ron Norman.

The team has worked very hard to get this phase of the testing completed successfully. We have our pit crew jobs well defined and practiced,Our runway assignments are well laid out. Les says he is happy with the characteristics of the North American Eagle™ and we have outgrown our test location. We now have to either move to a longer asphalt runway or to Edwards AFB for our next phase of testing. We feel that the next stage of speed runs up to 500 mph can be done with a minimum of changes on the NAE™. Steve Green, Eagle Machine is working out the final details of our high speed wheels.

We've been invited to participate with the Blue Angels in the DARE display at the museum of flight located on Boeing Feild. These activities will be a part of the festivities of the Seattle Seafair celebration. At the same time we have been invited to make runs on the runway at Abbottsford Airshow in Canada. We have to make a decision soon. We're also waiting for Bob Pierson to confirm which celebrity rides will be available for Edwards AFB.

If all goes on schedule, we're looking at creating some real speed and taking on the competition sooner than they think.

Ed Shadle, Project Manager
