NAE™ Project: Update January 31, 2009 Ladies and Gentlemen: Sparks were flying in the North American Eagle™ hanger as Bernard McVay, Chris Greene, Von Armstrong, Omar Chramosta, Jon Higley, John Drury, Steve Wallace, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle got a little closer to our goal to break the 763 mph world land speed record. Bernard finished up a third AFFF Fire Retardant Foam unit. All three units can dispense 150 gallons of the fire suppression foam. Our sponsors NW Sport Divers, Western Fire & Safety and McVay's Mobile Welding supplied all the components to manufacture the very effective fire suppression systems that are the best for fighting Jet A Fuel fires. Chris helped Keith put together a mobile machinist vise unit we can use during our test sessions. Von, Jon and Omar installed the Thomas Aerospace parachute assemblies. On Sunday Feb 1st Slim Lawson celebrated his 89th birthday! Ed, Omar, John and Keith were on hand to watch Slim make two separate flights around the Spanaway Airport pattern. For a brief moment, little Spanaway Airport looked like O'Hare Airport as dozens of aircraft flew in to wish Slim happy birthday. Slim has over 18,000 flight hours and has owned Spanaway Airport since 1957 before turning it over to his son a few years ago. In 2002, Slim was inducted into the Washington State Aviation Hall of Fame. Next year on his 90th birthday Slim wants to parachute out of an airplane! We'll be there to celebrate it with him! Upcoming Speaking Engagements Earlier in the week Jon Higley gave a presentation at Emerald Ridge High School in Puyallup. The team has several presentations coming up in the next couple months. Ed, Steve and Keith will be speaking at the Seattle Museum of Flight at the Puget Sound Materials Expo. This event is being hosted by the Seattle Chapter of SAMPE (Society for The Advancement of Material and Process Engineering ) . Following the show, Ed and Keith will hop on a plane to Savannah Georgia and give a presentation to Convergence 2009 Geomagic Conference. The two will present how Team North American Eagle uses innovation to build the world's most complex and fastest car. In April Ed, Steve and Keith will present at COE 2009 Annual PLM Conference & TechniFair This year the show will be held in Seattle April 19 - 22. Previously the three have spoken at the 2007 COE event in Las Vegas. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
