January 17, 2009

Ladies & Gentlemen:

Today's work party included: Rich Pengelley, Tim Finley, Omar Chramosta, Jon Higley, Bernard McVay, Steve Wallace, Sam Yellowbird, Don Mitchell, Ron Doll, Rex Walter, John Winchester, Von Armstrong, John Drury, Keith Zanghi, Ed Shadle and our newest team member Chris Greene. 14 year old Chris met us at the Tacoma Motorsports Show and found out he just lived down the street, so he will be helping on the weekends.

Joe Price (L) & John Drury

Tim worked on the vehicle electronics. Steve spent time working on the onboard computer cooling system. The onboard computer using Intel® Processors has been modified with a water cooling system that will maintain functionality where compartment temperatures often exceed 120 degrees in the desert.

Unloading the Mobilizer

During the week Bernard picked up our new mobilizer from Powder Coating Inc. The team at Powder Coating Inc put a bullet proof coating of black powder coating over the entire assembly. The new mobilizer will allow us to transport the Eagle on asphalt or concrete roads with the metal wheels installed. Powder Coatings Inc has finished just about every assembly that is exposed to the corrosive environment encountered on the desert playa.

Ron Doll and Rex Walter stopped by and gave an update on the CFD Analysis (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Next week we will add some amazing photos showing what happens at Mach 0.85. Don Mitchell has been working with Troy Ashby from Geomagic Studio on the digital datasets.

Lenovo computer system

Don is digitizing the entire vehicle along with the help of FARO Technologies, Verisurf Software and Dassault Systèmes CATIA V5. He utilizes Lenovo ThinkStations with super fast Intel® Xeon® Quad Core X5460 processors to perform the complex analysis.

Sam & Chris work on the toolbox

Our newest member Chris Greene dismantled Keith’s 39 year old tool box and with the help of Sam and Rich were able to bring it back into 1970 specifications.

Ed inside the cooling tank bay

Ed, Omar and Rich installed the brackets for the new computer cooling tank.

This coming week Jon & Russel will be giving a presentation at Frontier Junior High in Graham. We'll have photos next week.

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
