NAE™ Project: Update Archives January 28, 2004 Ladies & Gentlemen: Yesterday Ed Shadle, Ed Drumheller II, Steve Wallace and Keith Zanghi spent most of their day at the Boeing Historical Services in Bellevue, Washington. What brought them to the basement of one of the most expensive buildings ever made, was the vault that contains the entire archived history of the Boeing Airplane Company. Several years ago the Boeing Company bought North American Aviation (NAA). The B-1 Bomber, XB-70 Valkrie and the X-15 Rocket Plane are just three examples of aircraft that were manufactured in the NAA's factories. When that merger took place, the entire historical archives of NAA moved to Bellevue. Our purpose for this visit was to view the thousand of archive X-15 and XB-70 photographs and see if we could find more pictures of 56-763 back in its former assignment. With the help of Mike Lombardi, manager of Historical Services, we search thousands of photographs. Unfortunately, we did not locate any photos of 56-763. Even though we are aware of 19 known flights where 56-763 performed as chase for the X-15, we could not find any photographs with 56-763 in the background. However, we did find photos of 56-764 and lots of cool ones of 56-755. XB-70 and X-15 photos by permission from Boeing Historical Services. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site. Interested in helping us make history and bring the record back to North America? Here's how!
