February 6, 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Another very productive Saturday at the North American Eagle™ hanger as Chris Greene, Austin Walrath, Von Armstrong, John Winchester, Larry Martinson, Dustin Martinson, Bill Eckberg, Corey Dawson, Dave Selby, John Zambrano, Sean Rondestvedt, Sam Yellowbird, Jon Higley, Omar Chramosta, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle met again to prepare the car for another test session this summer.

The entire American engine team of Bill, Sean, Dave, John and Corey removed inspection ports from the fire breathing LM-1500 S&S Turbine Services turbojet engine to perform some visual inspection of the internal compressor and turbine blades. Using an Olympus iPLEX FX Borescope, the team went through a number of ports and inspected the entire length of the 17 foot, 42,500 hp engine.

IPLEX-FX Boroscope

The iPLEX FX Borescope has a color monitor and the ability to take still and video recordings of the inspection. Just like at hospital, the team was able to go into places that only the probe on the iPLEX FX Borescope could reach. We are happy to say the engine looked in great shape! Special thanks to Carlo Mullay from Olympus for lending us the equipment for the weekend.

Chris and Austin removed the parachute brackets. They will be moved inboard so aerodynamic fairing can be sculpted around the parachute deployment tubes. Ed removed the dash and will build a new one with the gauges and instruments arranged better. Von, Omar and Jon removed the main landing gear doors. They were slightly damaged during last test session.
