NAE™ Project:
Update Archives

April 24, 1997

Ladies & Gentlemen:

We have test fired the North American Eagle™ (NAE) after making some adjustments to the fuel controller and it now works just fine. We had also sheared off a input shaft to our ground power unit and this is now replaced with a new one. The NAE is in a shop having the wheels and hubs dismantled and checked over. A new set of aircraft tires are on their way to us from Texas and Ron Norman will get them trimmed and balanced for our low speed (300 to 400 mph) test runs. Steve Green of Eagle Machine in Abbotsford Canada has nearly finished our high speed wheels and will be pressing in the needed bearings and delivering them to us in the next couple of weeks. After our trip to the East Coast for car shows, our truck and trailer are falling apart. We replace the transmission, the air ride pump and a few other things. The trailer is collapsing and needs a structural overhaul. We really need to hurry because the May test runs are just around the corner.

I'll be leaving for the Muroc Reunion at Edwards AFB over this weekend of April 26-27. While there I'll be picking up the safety net from Rick Vesco. He will transport it from Wendover and that is a tremendous help to us. Bob Stroud of the Stroud Parachute Company is loaning it to us for our test runs. Bob also indicated he would like to help design our high speed chutes.

By the way, the 2nd Annual Muroc Reunion is being conducted on a 4 mile long runway at Edwards AFB California. Enter from the Lancaster side of the airbase (South gate). It cost $5.00 donation for spectators. If you want to see the history of racing all over again, come out and see us.
