NAE™ Project: Shadle's #600 27 T Roadster Ed built the # 600 27 T Roadster from a body found in a wheat field in Eastern Washington. Yep, it's a steel body and the doors even open and close. Some hot rodder from the 50's had painted a snail with smoking slicks on the door and named it "Super Slug", so Ed left the painting on the right hand door. The body sits on 32 Ford rails which Ed modified a little. You should have seen him with a torch in one hand, heating the rails, jumping on them to get the correct contour to fit the shape of the 27 body. A scene right out of 1956! Inside the Deuce rails Ed built a 6 point roll cage for safety and mounted a 66 Oldsmobile 425" engine. Again, he bent the tubes and built it in his garage. The engine came from a junked Olds which Ed found on a river bank near Dryden, WA. The 425 now sports Competition Cams parts, Offy intake with dual 625 Carter AFB's, C heads, Manley Valves, W30 Eonic Camshaft, MSD and so on. Horsepower is delivered through the Schaffer Flywheel via a LUK clutch, Saginaw 4 speed to a Halibrand V-8 Quickchange. Best speeds at Bonneville have been 160 mph and 140 mph at Muroc. It may not be the fasted B Street Roadster, but it sure is fun to drive and handles like a dream. It does hold the record at Muroc at 140.034 mph. Not bad for a roadster with fenders, headlights and swap meet parts. Ed counted up the timing slips on the #600 car and found it is really a low mileage car with about 500 miles on the salt. I guess that means we will see more of it in the future. We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
